Platform Firmware Engineer
Mountain View, CA – Onsite
Up to $370k base
We’re working with an early-stage AI compute company developing a full-stack platform built around system-on-wafer architecture and advanced 3D integration. The aim is to reduce the power, latency and infrastructure costs associated with moving data across conventional AI clusters.
The technical work spans silicon, hardware systems, firmware, compilers and kernels, with teams working closely together to shape the platform.
They’re hiring a Platform Firmware Engineer to own the firmware that brings accelerator systems to life and keeps them secure, healthy and observable, from first boot through production operation.
The role -
5 + years in -
- Develop firmware across boot ROM, bootloaders, embedded controllers, BMC and accelerator devices.
- Implement secure boot and hardware root-of-trust flows, including measured and verified boot, code signing, authenticated updates, anti-rollback protection and secure debug.
- Build power-management firmware covering power sequencing, PMIC and voltage-rail control, DVFS, and power and thermal protection.
- Develop monitoring and telemetry across sensors, platform health, error logging and management interfaces.
- Develop JTAG/scan and debug infrastructure, working directly in the lab on board and post-silicon bring-up.
- Partner with silicon, architecture, board and software engineers on firmware interfaces, threat modelling and hardware-software design decisions.
Your experience
- Hands-on firmware development across boot ROM, bootloaders, embedded controllers, BMC and accelerator devices is essential.
- Clear personal ownership of production firmware, including implementation, validation and debug.
- Strong understanding of how firmware interacts with hardware during boot, initialization and platform operation.
- Practical experience debugging complex hardware-software issues directly in the lab during board or post-silicon bring-up.
- Experience with secure boot, authenticated firmware updates, power management, platform telemetry or hardware debug interfaces.
- The ability to work across firmware, silicon and board boundaries to identify problems and resolve integration issues.
- Comfort with hands-on engineering, evolving requirements and broad ownership in an early-stage team.
Why join?
You’ll own foundational firmware for a new AI computing platform, working directly with the engineers designing its silicon, boards and software stack. Your decisions will influence how the hardware boots, manages power, reports failures and operates reliably.
The team brings experience building advanced compute platforms, with scope for individual engineers to shape architecture and establish engineering practices as the company grows.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to work at the hardware boundary and take responsibility for making complex compute systems work.
This role is based onsite in Mountain View, California. It is also available in Austin, Texas.
