About the job
Acceler8 Talent is seeking a Principal Optical Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced optical systems for next-generation AI acceleration platforms. This role requires expertise in free-space optics, coherent beam propagation, optical architectures, precision alignment, and design-for-manufacturability. You’ll collaborate across silicon photonics, optomechanics, electrical, and software teams to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions that push the boundaries of optical computing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate system-level requirements into specifications for optical sub-assemblies.
- Design and optimize free-space optical systems for beam control, performance, and manufacturability.
- Model coherent beam propagation and conduct advanced analyses (e.g., stray-light, polarization, Fourier optics).
- Use optical design tools (Zemax, CODE V, LightTools) and scripting languages (MATLAB, Python) for simulation and validation.
- Develop alignment and calibration techniques; collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure scalable production.
- Document specifications, validation processes, and troubleshoot complex optical systems.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years designing and developing free-space optical systems for high-performance applications.
- Proven expertise in Gaussian beam propagation, coherent system modeling, and optical design software.
- Experience transitioning designs from concept to production with DFM practices.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work across interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred Skills:
- Background in optoelectronic or photonic systems.
- Knowledge of advanced fabrication, micro-optics, or beam-steering architectures.
- Familiarity with custom optical metrology and rapid prototyping.
Why Join:
This role offers the chance to shape breakthrough optical technologies that will power the next generation of AI systems. You’ll be part of a fast-growing, high-impact team tackling some of the most exciting challenges in modern computing.
