About the job

Performance Architect / Simulator Developer

A venture-backed AI hardware startup is hiring strong SW/HW co-design engineers to help model and optimize next-generation compute platforms built for large-scale machine learning workloads. This team is developing vertically integrated solutions spanning silicon, systems, and software to power advanced AI training and inference.

If you’re passionate about computer architecture and want your work to directly influence cutting-edge AI hardware, this is a high-impact opportunity.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain functional and performance models of advanced hardware systems
  • Develop internal tools and infrastructure to support efficient correlation, debugging, and testing workflows
  • Partner closely with architecture, verification/validation, compiler, and runtime teams to ensure model accuracy and usability
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and technical reviews
  • Analyze system behavior and implement performance optimizations

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals with a focus on writing clean, maintainable, high-performance code
  • Solid grounding in computer architecture principles
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills
  • Experience with Rust and/or development of cycle-accurate simulators

Nice to Have

  • Deep familiarity with machine learning accelerator architectures
  • Experience benchmarking and optimizing software
  • Understanding of processor, memory, and networking architectures
  • Knowledge of power, performance, and cost trade-offs in system design

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy working at the intersection of software and hardware and want to help shape the compute foundation for the next generation of AI systems.
