Who they’re looking for

There isn’t one prescribed background. The strongest candidates will demonstrate a combination of exceptional technical ability, intellectual horsepower and evidence of performing at a very high level.

Standout indicators may include:

• An excellent academic record from a leading global university
• Top-of-class results, academic medals or major scholarships
• Experience at high-bar technology companies, quantitative trading firms, leading AI organisations or ambitious venture-backed startups
• Founding or early engineering experience in a fast-moving startup
• Recognition in competitions such as the IMO, other mathematics or physics Olympiads, or the ICPC
• Research published at leading conferences such as ICML, ICCV or NeurIPS
• Patents, substantial open-source contributions or technically ambitious personal projects with meaningful adoption
• Clear evidence that you’ve built difficult systems and delivered measurable impact

You do not need to meet every criterion. They’re interested in the overall strength of your trajectory, the complexity of the problems you’ve solved and your potential to operate at an exceptional level.
