About the job
Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Avatar AI
Los Angeles or San Francisco (Hybrid)
up to 300k base + competitive equity.
I'm working with a well-funded AI company building what they believe is the visual and embodiment layer for AI.
Their vision is that every AI will eventually have a persistent identity, personality, and visual presence. To make that possible, they're building the systems that allow AI characters to move, react, express emotion, and interact naturally in real time.
This role sits within the Avatar Technology team, focused on building the next generation of AI-driven animation systems.
You'll work at the intersection of generative AI, multimodal learning, animation, and 3D character technology, developing the core models that generate motion, behavior, and expression for AI-powered avatars.
This is not an LLM application role. It's a deep ML role focused on motion generation, animation systems, and multimodal AI.
You'll work on problems such as:
• Text-to-motion generation
• Audio-driven facial animation
• Full-body animation synthesis
• Diffusion and transformer models for motion generation
• Multimodal systems connecting language, audio, intent, and behavior to motion output
• Learning robust representations for skeletal animation, facial systems, and latent motion spaces
• Training and optimizing large-scale generative models for real-time applications.
We're looking for engineers who have:
• Experience building and training generative machine learning models in production or research environments
• Strong foundations in probability, optimization, deep learning, and machine learning systems
• Hands-on experience with diffusion models, transformers, VAEs, GANs, or related architectures
• Experience working with multimodal datasets such as text, audio, video, motion, or image data
• Experience owning machine learning systems end-to-end, from model development through deployment
• Strong PyTorch experience.
Particularly relevant experience includes:
• Experience with skeletal animation, motion capture, or character animation systems
• Experience with facial animation systems, FACS, or blendshapes
• Experience optimizing models for real-time inference
• Background in computer graphics, gaming, animation, or 3D technologies
• Experience working at the intersection of research and product development.
If you're excited about building the systems that give AI characters movement, expression, and presence, I'd love to chat.
