About the job

Senior Ontology Engineering Lead — Knowledge Graphs & Reasoning Systems

💡 What if your next role let you define the semantic foundations that allow autonomous AI systems to reason about the physical world — from experiments to decisions to long-horizon planning?

🚀 Our client — a deeply technical AI company building autonomous systems for real-world scientific discovery — is hiring a Senior Ontology Engineering Lead (San Francisco / Redwood City, In-Person).

They’re building AI systems that don’t just learn from data, but generate new data through automated experiments. At the core is a semantic layer that enables agents, planners, and learning systems to share meaning, context, and constraints at system scale.

The role:

🧠 Design and evolve ontologies and schemas representing entities, processes, events, and workflows

🕸️ Build large-scale knowledge graphs (RDF/OWL, property graphs, or hybrid) that support querying, inference, and change over time

⚙️ Define semantic constraints, typing systems, and validation rules for correctness and interpretability

🔄 Build ingestion and update pipelines integrating heterogeneous scientific and system data

🤖 Partner closely with agent, ML, and systems teams to support reasoning, planning, and learning

🚀 Own ontology evolution, versioning, alignment, and impact analysis as domains scale

Why join?

🌎 Work on AI systems that directly act in and learn from the physical world

💰 Competitive senior-level compensation + meaningful upside

⚙️ Tackle foundational problems at the intersection of semantics, agents, and science

🤝 High-autonomy, world-class team operating from first principles
