Senior/Staff Software Engineer
- $200K–$300K
- New York
- Permanent
Founding Software Engineer - Advanced Manufacturing
📍 New York - Onsite
💰 Base salary of $200K–$300K plus equity, with flexibility for exceptional candidates
This role is designed for senior ICs, but exceptional early-career candidates are also strongly encouraged to apply, particularly ICPC World Finalists, IOI, IMO, and other top Olympiad competitors.
The Opportunity
Join an early-stage AI company building the operating system for the CFO’s office.
Its Audit-Ready AI Agents connect to ERPs, banks, billing, payroll, CRM, contracts, spreadsheets, email, and Slack to automate close, revenue recognition, reporting, cash management, and audit readiness. Finance teams review exceptions while AI handles the rest.
The company’s Unified Finance Context captures transactions, policies, contracts, historical decisions, and accounting judgment, enabling agents to reason, explain decisions, escalate uncertainty, and improve continuously.
They have raised $9M led by Foundation Capital, alongside BoldCap, Gaia Ventures, Aravind Srinivas, and finance leaders from leading companies including Zuora, Ramp, Gusto, MongoDB, Zoom, and the Big Four.
The Role
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will build the platform systems every product team depends on: agent frameworks, context systems, orchestration, verification, observability, data infrastructure, and developer tooling.
This is a hands-on IC role with broad ownership. You will identify the company’s most important bottlenecks, work directly with engineers, accountants, customers, and founders, and turn complex problems into durable platform abstractions.
What You’ll Do
- Own the agent harness that enables teams to ship audit-grade AI agents on shared rails
- Define abstractions for context, verification, guardrails, evaluations, observability, and developer tooling
- Design the financial context graph: ledger state, dimensions, policies, contracts, precedent, and entitlements
- Build scalable, multi-tenant-safe systems for financial data ingestion, normalization, reconciliation, and canonical ledger models
- Establish the verification, auditability, and reliability standards that make AI output safe for customers’ books
- Architect durable orchestration for long-running workflows and exactly-once, audit-ready write-back to systems of record
- Partner with controllers and finance teams to turn real workflows into reusable systems
- Solve difficult problems end to end across AI systems, data infrastructure, and product architecture
What We’re Looking For
- Strong software engineering and systems-design fundamentals
- Deep backend experience in Python, Go, Java, Rust, or a similar language; the core stack is Python, with TypeScript used where needed
- Experience in distributed systems, data infrastructure, workflow engines, transactional systems, integration platforms, or AI/agent platforms
- A history of building frameworks, infrastructure, or abstractions that made other engineers more effective
- Excellent technical and product judgment under ambiguity
- High ownership, urgency, and a focus on correctness and customer outcomes
- Comfort working full-stack when needed
- Fluency using AI coding agents and modern developer tooling as a core part of your practice
Nice to Have
- Production experience with AI agent platforms, context systems, evaluations, verification, guardrails, or orchestration
- Experience in accounting, fintech, ERP, payments, treasury, audit, compliance, or ledger systems
- Experience operating systems where correctness matters more than speed
- Familiarity with SOX, SOC 1/2, financial audit, or other regulated environments
- Experience at an early-stage or high-growth startup
- A competitive programming, mathematics, physics, or Olympiad background
This May Not Be for You If
- You prefer narrow ownership, extensive process, or fully specified work
- You are uncomfortable making consequential decisions with incomplete information
- You want to move away from writing code
- You prefer distance from customers and domain experts
- You see AI coding agents as optional rather than essential engineering leverage
The Culture
This is a high-ownership environment with little separation between strategy and execution. Small, exceptional teams own problems end to end, work closely with domain experts, and ship quickly.
Staff engineering is measured by depth of impact—not management scope. You will continue to write code while raising the ceiling for the engineers and products around you.
Why Join?
🚀 Help define Audit-Ready AI for Finance.
Finance is one of the highest-stakes applications for AI. The company is building systems that can reason over real financial context, show their work, surface uncertainty, and operate safely in core finance workflows.
You will work directly with founders, CFOs, controllers, and exceptional engineers to build that foundation.
Top-of-market compensation, meaningful early-stage equity, medical/dental/vision coverage, 401(k) match, meals, and a stocked NYC office are included.
Visa sponsorship and O-1 support are available.
