Senior Backend Engineer, Data Systems | AI Infrastructure Startup | $130M+ Raised | Up to $300,000 Base
We're partnering with a fast-growing AI infrastructure company building mission-critical software for the defense, aerospace, automotive, and semiconductor industries.
They're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer, Data Systems to design the core data architecture behind their platform.
This is a backend engineering role focused on relational data modeling, PostgreSQL, Python, and building scalable backend services—not a traditional data engineering position.
What You'll Do
- Design scalable relational data models and PostgreSQL schemas
- Build backend services and APIs in Python
- Develop data ingestion and normalization pipelines
- Model business rules through clean, configurable data structures
- Define data contracts across services and APIs
What They're Looking For
- Strong backend engineering experience
- Deep PostgreSQL and SQL expertise
- Strong Python skills
- Experience with SQLAlchemy, Alembic, or similar tools
- Excellent data modeling and database design skills
Bonus: Experience with PostGIS, event-driven systems, versioned datasets, or defense/aerospace domains.
Experience: 5+ years
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid/Remote)
Salary
- Senior: $180,000–$240,000 + equity
- Staff: $240,000–$300,000 + equity
